Similar in size to the Glock 19, the Smith & Wesson M&P 9 M2.0 Compact is directly targeting the type of concealed carrier that has favored the features of the Glock 19 for its blend of size and capacity. Now Smith & Wesson has brought their own 4-inch barrel and 15-round double stack with the M&P 9 M2.0 Compact and we think it's going to be another popular choice for concealed carry. We recently got our hands on the newest compact pistol from Smith & Wesson to not only design our line of holsters for it, but to also put a thousand rounds through it to see how it runs. It's a tough job but somebody has to do it.
The M&P 9 M2.0 Compact slots in nicely between the older M&P 9c Compact with its 3.5-inch barrel and the M&P 9 M2.0 with its 4.25-inch barrel. Equipped with a 4-inch barrel this new compact model delivers a form factor that many Smith & Wesson users have been asking for (and for quite some time) so when it was announced - we were not surprised at all by the influx of holster requests we received by people that were planning on purchasing this pistol the minute it was made available.
In addition to that "just right" compact size, the Smith & Wesson M&P 9 M2.0 Compact features a greatly improved trigger and an aggressive grip texture. The quality of the stock trigger that comes on the M2.0 Compact is definitely worth mentioning. There is still a fair amount of take up but the break is crisp and the reset is short and very audible. In our limited 1,000-round test, we can say the new trigger is a great improvement over previous models.
These improvements combined with a low bore axis and a grip angle that many find to be quite natural, make the Smith & Wesson M&P 9 M2.0 Compact an incredibly comfortable pistol to shoot and carry concealed. Also to note, in our test of 1,000 rounds we did not experience any malfunctions.
